Women’s Soccer Send Panthers Packing in Weekend WIn

Final Score: Lipscomb 2, Florida International 1
Location: Nashville, Tenn. (Lipscomb Soccer Complex)
Records: Lipscomb (3-1-2), Florida International (2-3)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women's soccer team picked up its third win of the season against the Florida International Panthers. The Lady Bisons picked up a goal in each half of the match with a total of 19 shots on the match. The goals came from Lipscomb Shelby Craft and Kelli Beiler on impressive connections with their teammates.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Lady Bisons brought their momentum from Friday's victory into the match as forward Kale'a Perry recorded the first shot of the game just 35 seconds into the match. Redshirt sophomore Alivia Carapazza posted the second shot of the match less than a minute later.

The first goal of the match came just over eight minutes into the action as redshirt junior Shelby Craft unleashed a one-timer into the top-right section of the goal on a leading pass from Emanuela Schurch, giving the Bisons the early lead in the match.

While the storms may have held off this weekend, shots certainly rained aplenty at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex as the Purple and Gold logged 12 shots and held the Panthers to zero shots in the first half. Five of the Lady Bisons' shots landed on target and forced the Panthers goalkeeper to make a series of saves to hold the score at 1-0 going into the half.

The Lady Bisons kept things rolling in the second half of the match as Beiler received a quick cross from Faith Adams inside the box and promptly buried it in the lower left corner of the net in the 49th minute of the match. The Panthers put up their first three shots of the game in retaliation before finding the net for a goal of their own 64 minutes into play.

Lipscomb posted six more shots in the end of the half, two of which were from Belier. Perry found the left post with a rocket of a shot inside the box. Florida International put up the last shot of the match in minute 86, giving redshirt sophomore CJ Graham her second save of the match and her fourteenth save of the season, putting her eleventh in the conference for saves so far this season.

QUICK FACTS:
  • The Lady Bisons outshot the Panthers 19-5, their third match in a row in which they have recorded at least ten more shots than their opponent
  • With her goal tonight, Belier now ties for second on the team in goals at two
  • Adams and Schurch's assists against the Panthers give both players their second assists of the season, trying them for first on the team in assists
  • The Lady Bisons are now 2-0 against the Panthers following their 1-0 victory over Florida International last August

HEAD COACH KEVIN O'BRIEN:
"It was a great, great night tonight for our girls. I think, you know, a great weekend really, coming off the heels of a game we were able to score some goals, which has been struggle for us this year and to be able to pick up where we left off against a really talented FIU team.

It feels good, you know, the fact of the matter is that we created some really, really good chances. I thought their goalkeeper was phenomenal and we hit the goalpost on I think three occasions, so we were creating like we did on Friday night again on Sunday and those are good signs. I mean, that's ultimately what we want to be doing, what we need to be doing be successful moving forward.

We'll give the girls off tomorrow to let them rest and then it's a short week and we've got a really tough weekend with our final non-conference matches against Vanderbilt and Xavier comping up. So, we're going to have to be at our best to get results against two super talented teams."

UP NEXT:
