Women’s Tennis Puts Away Panthers 5-2 in Friday Win

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb women's tennis welcomed the Georgia State Panthers to their home away from home for a Friday evening indoor matchup. The Bisons brought home the win with a 5-2 victory from four singles wins and the doubles point.
 
The Bisons got the drop early in the match as they earned a win by default on court three. The Panthers struck back with a win on court one as Sasha Dobranos and Sofiia Paladi fell 6-4 to their Georgia State foes.
 
The Bisons earned the deciding doubles win on court two as Anja Trbeznik and Alina Cherniaieva earned a 7-5 win to claim the first point of the match in Lipscomb's favor.
 
The Bisons' top three courts got moving in singles play as Dobranos earned the first singles point of the match on court one to open the singles points following a win by default for Lipscomb on court six. She earned a straight-set victory over her Panther opponent (6-4, 6-3).

However, Georgia State returned the pressure with a win of their own on court five over Cherniaieva. Lipscomb's squad earned the next two points on courts two and three. Sofiia Paladi and Anja Trbeznik earned their victories in tough matches that saw Paladi take her opponent to three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-1) and Trbeznik earn her two set victory with a tiebreaker (6-2, 7-6(8-6)) on their respective courts.
 
The Panthers claimed the final point of the match on court four as a heartbreaker of a battle for Liza Diachenko ended with the three-setter going in Georgia State's favor (6-2, 4-6, 6-1). This victory marks the Bisons' third of the season, improving them 3-1 to begin their 2023 campaign, the first time they've made such a start since the 2020-21 season.
