Alvarado & McElhaney Claim Opening Week ASUN Track & Field Honors

ATLANTA, Ga. – Lipscomb track & field put up an impressive first weekend of competition and two Bisons shone brightly enough to garner ASUN Weekly Awards as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon. Abigail Alvarado earned the ASUN Women's Track Athlete of the Week for her performance in the 400m dash while Aislinn McElhaney claimed the ASUN Women's Field Athlete of the Week for her performance in the long jump. Setting program records in both events.

"We're excited about the start of the indoor track season and how our student athletes performed in their first meet," commented Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Nick Polk. "Abigail and Aislinn did a great job of getting out to a fast start and breaking indoor records!"

McElhaney claimed her second ASUN Indoor Weekly Field honor after logging a personal best distance of 6.18m (20' 3.5") at the Commonwealth College Opener. Her jump earned her first place and set a new program record, breaking the previous record of 6.03m set in 2023 at the Music City Challenge by McElhaney herself.

Alvarado claimed her first ASUN Indoor Weekly Track honor following a 57.00 time in the 400m dash at the Commonwealth College Opener, claiming first place, setting a personal best for the event, and a new program record. Alvarado's time replaces Brenna Thompson's time of 57.30 at the 2013 ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The Bisons will return to action after the new year at the Commodore Challenge, hosted by Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn., over Friday and Saturday, January 12-13^th.
