THE SHORT STORY
After Jacksonville opened the game by scoring the first five runs in the first three innings of play, Lipscomb responded with a two-run top of the fourth inning to cut into the deficit. The Dolphins added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth and held the Bisons scoreless in their final three at-bats to clinch the conference win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jacksonville opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with two runs on one hit to take the early lead and doubled their score with two runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning. The Dolphins pushed their lead to 5-0 with a run on two hits in the bottom of the third.
The Bisons responded in the top of the fourth as
Maci Cunconan singled to center field to push
Kyndall Crawford to third with one out.
Katelyn Belding reached on a fielder's choice in the next at-bat to score Crawford to cut into the deficit.
Kamrie Rich took the first pitch she saw, in the next at-bat, to deep center that was far enough to plate Cunconan from third to trim the lead to 5-2.
The Dolphins added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth on two hits to clinch the conference win.
Laine Barefoot was credited with the loss in the circle for the Bisons, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in 5.0 innings of relief, while
Emily Yakubowski allowed three runs on two hits after pitching the first inning of play.
Jacksonville's Ashlee Harwood allowed two runs on two hits in 7.0 innings of work to earn the victory in the circle.
Cunconan went 2 for 3 from the plate with a run scored to pace the Bisons on Sunday, while Belding and Rich collected RBIs in the loss.
