THE SHORT STORY
Emily Yakubowski pitched a three-hit shutout, while her team tallied four runs on seven hits, to close out the Purple & Gold Challenge with a 4-0 win over Saint Louis on Draper Diamond.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first two innings, Lipscomb opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning as
Joie Giarrizzo scored on an infield single by
Elise Shewmaker to give the Bisons an early lead.
Presley Leebrick followed up Shewmaker's infield single by hitting one of her own to score
Kelly Paulson from third base. Shewmaker scored in the next at-bat to push the lead to 3-0.
Saint Louis threatened in the top of the fourth with a one-out double to left center, but Yakubowski was able to pop-up the final two batters to keep the lead at 3-0.
Lipscomb closed out its scoring in the bottom of the fifth as
Maci Cunconan flied out to deep centerfield to plate Paulson from third and give the Bisons a 4-0 lead.
Yakubowski held the Billikens to only one run in the final two at-bats to clinch the non-conference win and her third win of the weekend.
Saint Louis' Chloe Wendling gave up three earned runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings of work in the circle for the Billikens.
Kamrie Rich and Paulson paced the Bisons from the plate, combining to go 4 for 5 from the plate with two runs scored. Shewmaker, Leebrick, and
Presley Rader also collected hits for Lipscomb in the win.

Lipscomb will return to Draper Diamond next weekend as they host the Lady Bison Classic. The Bisons open against Akron on Friday, March 10 at 3 p.m.
