THE SHORT STORY
After a scoreless first four innings of the game, Stetson used a solo home run in the top of the fifth to take the lead and held the Bisons scoreless in their final three at-bats to clinch the ASUN victory in the Sunday finale.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams collected hits in the first inning, but a pitching duel between
Brinkley Kita and Stetson's Lauren Hobbs kept the game in an early deadlock.
The Hatters nearly broke through in the top of the second inning as they had bases loaded with two outs, but a terrific jumping catch by
Josey Polk kept the score level. Polk continued her strong performance in the field in the top of the third with a terrific play on a groundout to keep the score at 1-1.
Stetson broke through in the top of the fifth with a one-out solo home run to left field to give the Hatters a 1-0 lead.
Lipscomb threatened in the bottom of the sixth as
Kamrie Rich singled to right field to give the Bisons a base runner, but Stetson was able to obtain the final four outs to clinch the conference win.
Kita was credited with the loss in the circle for Lipscomb, allowing one earned run on seven hits in 7.0 innings of work.
Stetson's Hobbs picked up the victory by giving up only four hits in 7.0 innings of work.
Kaylyn Belfield,
Kelly Paulson, Rich, and
Presley Rader all collected hits for the Bisons in the loss.
