Scotland Golf Day 2

Spiritual Formation

Scotland Women’s Golf Mission Trip- Sport As A Bridge

Written by: Lauren Thompson

We started off the day in a very traditional Scottish way, trying haggis! If you didn't know, haggis is sheep's stomach, the national dish of Scotland! After breakfast, we took a taxi to The Wee Course in North Berwick where we would spend most of our day helping and encouraging the kids participating in the Malcolm Cup. Today was the 50th anniversary of the tournament and it was very fascinating to hear about the rich history behind the event!

We were able to follow along with the kids as they played, encouraging and cheering them on! We also were able to host a putting clinic for the kids where we helped them with a few drills we had set up. The joy of the Lord was so evident through the kindness and fun the kids were having as they competed! We loved getting to meet the kids and their families. I think it is so amazing that the Lord is able to use sports, and specifically golf in our case, to build connection and relationship that is ultimately rooted in Him. I will also add that connection probably became even stronger as we all rode out a proper Scottish rainstorm that left most of us and the kids wringing out our shirts and socks!

Anyways, while we sometimes might not think much of a casual "hello" or "what's your name?", to another, it might be one of the first times in a while someone feels seen or loved. I loved getting to see the girls on our team each serve in unique ways and witness the Lord working through words of motivation and love.

As we wrapped up our time at the Malcom Cup with an afternoon tea, we were able to meet and talk with even more people who attended the event. It was a great time getting to chat and learn about more of the history and culture surrounding the event and the golf coast of Scotland!

We ended the evening with dinner and devo, which was a time that was filled with a good meal and even better conversation about the ways we noticed the Lord throughout the day!
