Women’s Tennis Claims 11th Consecutive Win Over Bruins

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb women's tennis bounced back from a pair of losses last weekend with a commanding win over the Belmont Bruins on Sunday. The Bisons traveled to the Beaman Family Tennis Complex and took down the Burins 6-1 on their home courts for their 11th consecutive win over Belmont.

"This was a great win today against a Belmont team who also have a deep roster this year, and are having a good season as well," commented Head Coach Jamie Aid. "This was our first outdoor match of the season and our girls really showed up. The start of doubles was a bit slow, but once they settled in, they just did not let up. This was exemplified by the fact that with today's win, Sofiia [Paladi] is 9-0 on the season in singles play with an undefeated 6-0 record at the No. 2 position."

The Bisons began the match with the doubles point to take the early lead Sunday afternoon. After Mariya Dolzhenko and Sofiia Paladi fell 6-2 on the top court to their Bruin opponents, Anja Trbeznik and Alina Cherniaieva combined for a 6-4 win on court three and Sasha Dobranos and Rut Galindo clinched the doubles point for the Purple and Gold with their 7-5 victory on court two.

Lipscomb's squad continued to battle in singles play with three straight-set wins and a pair of three-set battle victories to claim their win. Mariya Dolzhenko recorded her eighth straight-set win of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court four.

Anja Trbeznik joined her in the win column a short while later with her 6-1, 6-2 win on court five before Alina Cherniaieva helped the Bisons clinch the match with her 6-4, 6-2 win no court six.

The Bruins broke onto the scoreboard with a 7-6 (10-8), 6-3 win over Rut Galindo on court three, but the Bisons had the last laugh as Sofiia Paladi put up a 4-6m, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) win on court two and Sasha Dobranos brought home the squad's sixth point of the day with her 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 win at the top spot.

The Bisons' win stands as Lipscomb's 11th consecutive win over the Bruins with head coach Jaie Aid remaining undefeated against Belmont in her tenure as Lipscomb's head coach.

"This was a great test coming out of an 0-2 weekend," Aid finished. "We let Gonzaga slip and Belmont beat Gonzaga, so it was great to see our girls rise to the challenge. We loved how they responded after last week!"
