What a day! Our group served at an organization called Dream Streets today. They serve the community with an after-school care program and by distributing food all around Nashville. One major job we had today was to clean the building! It was humbling to see how the Lord could work through mops, trash bags, and organizational skills! It taught us to see the eternal significance in the smallest of actions.
Later, while we were at the food distribution, there was a lady that came up asking for prayer. She is walking through some very difficult situations right now. It was so moving to see the Lord stir in her heart as we prayed for her and got to know her. Her vulnerability to strangers was incredible. Personally, it taught me the importance of community, asking for help, and trusting the Lord is working in and through hard situations.
In short, one common theme of today was that no matter where we were, whether it was cleaning a classroom, handing out food, watching the women's basketball game, or eating meals together, the Holy Spirit was there. And what I love about this mission opportunity is that it is right here in Nashville. We get to serve and connect with people that live right down the road.
This four day "mission trip" is preparing us for a life of living on mission. And it is all for the glory of God!
"Jesus replied, 'If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing.'" -John 8:54
