FORT MYERS, Fla. – Lipscomb softball took on FGCU for the final matchup of their three-game slate with the Eagles. Lipscomb struck first but the Eagles scored five unanswered runs Saturday afternoon resulting in a 5-1 decision.
In the first frame, Elise Shewmaker connected on an RBI single to right center to score Macyn Kirby, who reached on a lead-off single and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Josey Polk.
Unfortunately, their run in their opening at-bats was the only scoring offense the Bisons could manufacture, as the Eagles answered with five unanswered runs.
The first run came in the bottom of the second on an RBI single through the left side, then in the fifth, the Eagles created some separation with a three-run homer to go up 4-1.
FGCU then added an insurance run with an RBI single to right field for their fifth run of the contest.
The Bisons fought hard, earning eight hits on the afternoon, three of them coming from the bat of sophomore Elle Smith. However, the squad wasn't able to turn those base runners into runs on the board, and they fell 5-1 in the series finale, resulting in a 1-2 series result.
