Women’s Tennis Stellar Season Comes to an End

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Lipscomb women's tennis' historic 2024 campaign drew to a close Saturday morning as the #2 seeded Bisons fell to the #6 seeded FGCU Eagles in the ASUN Tournament Semifinals. The Bisons grabbed an early lead with the doubles point and after a fraught battle between the two teams, the Eagles clinched the match on the very last court to play in singles play.
 
Anja Trbeznik and Deborah Dominguez Collado teamed up on court three to give the Bisons the first doubles win of the day as they went 6-2 over their FGCU opponents.
 
The Eagles evened things up with their 6-2 win over Rut Galindo and Sasha Dobranos on court two, but Mariya Dolzhenko and Sofiia Paladi combined for a 7-5 win on court one to clinch the doubles point for Lipscomb.
 
FGCU's squad fought to bring the momentum into their favor as they claimed the first singles point of the day in a 6-3, 6-4 win over Dolzhenko on court four.
 
The Eagles then extended their lead when Trbeznik fell 4-6, 6-4, 0-6 to her opponent on court five and moved into clinching position with a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) win over Paladi at the No. 2 spot.
 
Alina Cherniaieva gave the Bisons a boost with her 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 win on court six and Dobranos delivered a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at the top spot to bring things tied at three points all.
 
After a knock-down, drag out battle on court three, the Eagles emerged victorious in a 6-7, 7-5, 6-2 win over Galindo to clinch the match and conclude Lipscomb's electric 2024 season.
