Bisons Emerge Victorious In Home Opener

Final Score: Lipscomb - 3, Alabama A&M - 0
Location: Nashville, Tenn. (Lipscomb Soccer Complex)
Records: Lipscomb (1-0-1), Alabama A&M (0-2-0)

In their home opener, five Bisons contributed to three goals, all scored in the first half, to earn Lipscomb their first win of the regular season over Alabama A&M. Twenty-three Bisons saw time on the field in the matchup against the Bulldogs, showing just how versatile this squad is going to be this season.

The Bisons started the scoring action early when Bella Carapazza scored in the 5' minute of the game. The sophomore shot at the goal inside the box off the defender's leg to put Lipscomb up over the Bulldogs. Carapazza earned her first start this season, along with Lucy Ream, and capitalized on the opportunity from the jump.

Not even ten minutes later, junior Lucy Hurst put in the header set up and assisted by Kiara Pralle in the 14' minute. Hurst's goal accounted for one of her two shots on goal during the game and applied pressure early in the game on Alabama A&M's defense.

London De Fini scored the third and final goal of the evening for the Bisons in the 42' minute assisted by Tate Vloedman off a trick play. Lipscomb was set up for a free shot after a yellow card was issued to the Bulldogs. Maddy Rhodes faked for the shot, covered from the defenders by Katherine Brightwell and Vloedman, who nudged the ball to De Fini for her to launch it past the defense and into the goal. De Fini is the first freshman of the season to record a goal.

Lipscomb's lockdown defense recorded its shutout of the season, allowing merely a total of eight shots all game. Compared to the Bisons' nineteen shots on goal, the Bulldogs only recorded four, none of which made it to the net. In her Lipscomb debut, Swoopes saw the latter 45 minutes of the match and managed to record three saves, which accounted for all three shots on goal in the second half. Kaïna Cesar, who started the game in the goal, recorded one save from the only shot on goal in the first half.

After the Bisons earned their victory, Coach O'Brien spoke highly of his team's performance. "Super proud of the girls for their performance today, I thought it was a comprehensive win from start to finish. I thought our first half was one of the best first halves we've had in quite some time," he gleamed.

The Bisons go a week without seeing outside competition with their next game being against the Tennessee Volunteers. Lipscomb will travel to Knoxville for a kickoff of noon CT on Aug. 25th.
