Lisa Corso Earns Bronze at Paris 2024 Paralympics

NASHVILLE, TN. – On Aug. 31st at 12:13 PM CT, Liza Corso raced in the Women's 1500m – T13 to represent the United States at the Paris Paralympics. Her 4:23.45 time earned her bronze, making her a 2x Paralympic Medalist.

Corso was the only Paralympian to represent America in the race and was one of only 225 athletes selected to represent Team USA in the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Liza ran at the head of the pack the entire race, giving Ethiopian gold medalist Tigist Mengistu and Moroccan silver medalist Fatima Ezzahra El Idrissi a run for their money.

Corso finished under a second behind El Idrissi and just over a second behind Menigstu, who also earned gold in the 1500m at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. Corso was able to beat her own silver-medal Tokyo 2020 Paralympics 1500m time by over 7 seconds.

Liza is classified as a T13 athlete, meaning she has moderate visual impairment. Corso's peripheral vision is limited, and her central vision can be blurred. Although she is visually impaired, Corso can see well enough to compete on her own as opposed to with a guide. Visually impaired athletes are classified in a range from T11-T13, identifying T-11 as having the greatest impairment, and T-13 as having the lowest impairment.

Despite having a visual impairment, Corso has made a name for herself in the ASUN Conference at Lipscomb. Corso was named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team in 2021 and qualified to compete at the NCAA Division I South Region Cross Country Championship. She has ran in the South Region Championships for the past 3 years and is looking to extend her streak this season.

Corso received ASUN Second Team All-Conference recognition in the 2022 Cross Country season, after which she was named to the 2023 Colege Sport Communicators Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-American Team, 2023 College Sport Communicators Academic All-District Team, and the ASUN Outdoor Third Team All-Conference for Track & Field. Corso recorded her personal best time of 4:19.54 in the 1500m at the 2023 Brian Clay Invitational during the 2023 Track season.

If her newly acquired hardware isn't enough to prove her dominance, Liza's numbers haven't lied and her stats sheet from this past 2023 Cross Country season was as impressive as they come. Corso recorded seven top-10 finishes over the season and never finished further back than 13th place in any race at any meet. Liza's experience in the 1500m race is exemplified by her second-place finish in the 2023 Joe Walker Invitational with a 4:20.97, about a second and a half over her personal best time. She also crossed the finish fifth in the 1500m at the ASUN Outdoor Championships with a time of 4:20.97, which earned her a trip to the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds.

Just 21 years old, Liza Corso's humble personality and impressive athleticism combine for a promising future, both on the track and off it. Corso is undoubtedly making her immediate family as well as her Bisons family proud. Entering her senior season, Liza has much to look forward to – and the medals to back it up.
