Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

A Gritty Performance and Overtime Goal by Rhodes Sends Lipscomb Back to the ASUN Final

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Lipscomb Women's Soccer punched its ticket to the ASUN Championship Final after a gritty 1-0 overtime victory over Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

The semifinal matchup was an intense, physical battle from start to finish. Jacksonville came out fast and aggressive, putting early pressure on the Bisons' defense with combination play and creative movement. Despite the Dolphins' early push, Lipscomb's backline held firm, anchored by composed defensive play and key saves from goalkeeper Kaïna Cesar.

After making tactical adjustments midway through the first half, the Bisons began to settle into the match and find more rhythm in possession. The first half ended scoreless, but Lipscomb carried its momentum into the second half with renewed energy and attacking motivation.

With regulation ending in a scoreless draw, the match headed to overtime — and it didn't take long for the Bisons to deliver. In the 93rd minute, Maddy Rhodes found herself on the receiving end of a perfectly placed pass in the box and buried the golden goal to send the Bisons into celebration.

After the match, head coach Kevin O'brien praised his team's toughness and resilience:

"Man, what an incredible game today. Tipped my hat to Jacksonville — they had us in sixes and sevens in the first half. I thought their movement and combinations were really hard to handle. We made some adjustments that helped us settle, and after halftime the girls came out with fire. They're a gritty bunch who fight for each other, and I'm so proud to be their coach. I'm thankful we get to play in another final."

With the win, Lipscomb advances to face North Florida in the ASUN Championship Final on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. CT at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex as the Bisons aim to capture their second consecutive ASUN Championship title.
