Five guys, one mission trip, and zero confidence in our Spanish—what could possibly go wrong? Somehow, that was exactly how our unforgettable time in Mexico began. Five days later, those same five guys spent a meaningful day in Baja, Mexico, visiting the homes of local families who attend the North San Quintín church, led by the incredible Pastor Jorge and his family. At each home, we gathered to pray and share in worship—singing songs in English while they sang for us in Spanish. Personally, that moment felt like a glimpse of what heaven might be like. Even with the language barrier, the spirit of unity was strong and deeply comforting. The families welcomed us with open arms and offered us different candies, which we politely and gratefully accepted, thankful for their generosity and kindness.
Later in the day, we headed to the beach with some of the teens from La Iglesia de Cristo. There, we played local games they enjoy, laughing and learning together as the waves rolled in beside us. We shared Lipscomb shirts with them—small gifts that carried big meaning—and once again joined together in prayer and worship. There was absolutely no shyness when it came to taking pictures, and even with our small exposure to MLS, it completely paled in comparison (haha). The joy on the beach reflected the bond that had grown between us throughout the day.
As the time came to part ways, the mood shifted to one of deep emotion. What had started as a simple visit had quickly turned into something that felt like family. Saying goodbye was difficult, filled with hugs, prayers, and grateful hearts. Though it was hard to leave, we carried with us the lasting impact of shared faith, friendship, and love that crossed borders, cultures, and languages.
To close out the evening, we had the privilege of hearing Panfilo's story—a powerful testimony of the transformation that happens when Jesus enters a person's life. He shared how he had been heading down a dangerous path and eventually hit rock bottom, but that was where Jesus met him. Now, Panfilo is one of the kindest souls you could meet, radiating everything Jesus calls us to be in the world. What stood out most was his humility; he shared his story not for attention, but to glorify God. It was the perfect ending to a day that reminded us just how life-changing faith in Jesus truly is.
