Women’s Tennis Blanks Samford

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb University women's tennis team shut out a second straight opponent on Friday evening with a 7-0 victory versus Samford University inside the Ensworth Tennis Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In doubles action, despite Samford picking up the first flight at the No. 3, Deborah Dominguez Collado and Rut Galindo won the No. 2 flight, 6-3, to even it all up at one apiece. 

Coming down to the top flight, the Bisons were able to get the crucial doubles point, as Serafima Bobrovnikova and Sofiia Paladi (4-7) won 6-4, as they earned their third doubles win of the spring. 

In singles, the Bisons made quick work to clinch the match, as Paladi (16-5) and Galindo (3-2) won their respective flights to make it 3-0. Both coming in straight sets, as Paladi won, 6-0. 6-2, and Galindo was victorious, 6-2, 6-1. 

Mariia Dolzhenko (12-7) clinched the match for Lipscomb at the No. 2 spot in the lineup, defeating Sara Erenda, 6-2, 6-2. 

Collado (6-1) won her fifth straight contest on Friday. After a tightly-contested first set, 7-6 (1), she used the momentum to win the No. 4 point with a 6-4 score in the second. 

Bobrovnikova and Sofiia Zhylchuk both went into a 10-point tiebreak at their flights, Zhylchuk (8-6) made quick work of her opponent, Libby Blair, 10-1, but Bobrovnikova was in a battle with Meredith Taylor. The freshman (11-5) edged Taylor, 13-11, to take the No. 5 and start the spring schedule 5-0.

The Bisons wrap up the four-match home stand with a contest against former ASUN foe East Tennessee State on Saturday. First serve from the Ensworth Tennis Center is set for 1 p.m.
