SAN MARCOS, TX – Lipscomb wrapped up their time at the Texas State Tournament with a rematch against San Diego on Sunday afternoon. The Bisons were beat by the Toreros 10-5 to cap off the opening weekend.
LIPSCOMB 5, SAN DIEGO 10
After falling to San Diego in the previous evening 2-0, the Bisons came out with a chip on their shoulder.
Ryleigh Sapp took to the mound and allowed only one hit in the first, leaving one on base before the Bisons recorded no hits in the bottom of the inning.
San Diego's lead-off for the second inning reached second base on an error before being sent home by the second hitter, resulting in an unearned score with no outs. Sapp stepped up and allowed no other hits to close the inning, but the Toreros struck again in the third when they earned a two-run homer to right field with two outs.
Laine Barefoot was sent to relieve Sapp and closed the third inning with the next at-bat.
In the bottom of the third, Lipscomb loaded the bases with one out, forcing the Toreros to relieve their pitcher. San Diego struck a second Bison out before ending the inning on a ground out to third base before Lipscomb could score.
San Diego capitalized on scoring opportunities in the fourth inning to extend their lead. The Torero's lead-off tripled and was sent home by the second batter's single. With two outs further down the line, San Diego sent two Toreros home on back-to-back plays before loading the bases and scoring another run. The Bisons relieved Barefoot with
Courtney Sauer. Three more unearned runs were scored by the Toreros before Sauer struck out the third and final batter of the inning.
Tori Womack put the Bisons on the board after reaching first base on an error. She was able to advance to second and third on the following two plays before scoring an unearned run on a passed ball.
After allowing no scores in the top of the fifth, Bisons'
Elle Smith scored on an RBI from
Macyn Kirby. Smith got to first on a bunt and advanced to second on a wild pitch before scoring off Kirby's double down the left field line. Kirby managed to steal third before scoring on a third base ground out from
Alyssa Hastings.
Josey Polk recorded Lipscomb's fourth run of the game in the bottom of the sixth. Leading off the inning, Polk tripled to right field before
Mallory Ogle sent her home for an RBI.
Macey Ogle followed in suit, doubling to center field before
Grace Cassarello reached first base on an error to earn Macey an unearned score. Lipscomb cut the deficit in half and forced the Toreros to relieve their pitcher before the end of the sixth.
After recording just one hit and one run before the fourth inning, the Bisons ended the game with six hits, five runs, and three RBI. San Diego walked away with the win, recording ten runs on twelve hits and eight RBI.
Lipscomb's offense was led by
Macyn Kirby with one hit, one run, and one RBI on three at-bats.
Elle Smith recorded two hits and one run off three at-bats while
Macey Ogle and
Josey Polk both had one hit and one run off three at-bats.

Lipscomb will travel to the Georgia Southern Tournament for action from Friday, Feb. 14
th to Sunday, Feb. 16
th. The Bisons will start the tournament off at 9:00 AM on Friday against Furman.
