HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite a win by
Mariia Dolzhenko and
Sofiia Paladi (6-5) at the top doubles flight, 6-4, the Hatters clinched the team point with the clinch on court two.
Rut Galindo and
Serafima Bobrovnikova each won their singles point to take the 2-1 lead. Galindo (7-8) won 6-3, 6-4 on court three, while Bobrovnikova (14-10) stopped a three-match losing skid with her 6-2, 6-4 victory at the fifth flight.
Sofiia Zhylchuk (13-10), who clinched Friday's win for the Bisons, extended Lipscomb's lead on Sunday with her No. 6 singles win, 6-2, 7-6 (5).
However, the Hatters rallied to take the final three points, including three-set victories at top-two flights that went down to the wire. Cheri Darley won the match for Stetson by taking down Paladi, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
