Lipscomb Women's Soccer opened the 2025 regular season with a 2-0 road victory over Tennessee Tech Thursday night, led by second-half goals from Hailey Johnson and Annessa Shivley.

The match began in unusual fashion as a weather delay halted kickoff just moments before the opening whistle. After waiting over an hour and a half for play to begin, the Bisons wasted no time taking control. Barely two minutes into the match, Lipscomb earned a corner and immediately set a high press that kept the Golden Eagles pinned in their own half for much of the night.

Tennessee Tech's most dangerous moments came on counter attacks, but Lipscomb maintained the bulk of possession and created quality chances throughout the first 45 minutes. In the 16th minute, London De Fini sent a laser of a cross into the box that nearly gave the Bisons an early lead. On the other end, freshman goalkeeper Kaïna Cesar came up big in the 20th minute, coming off her line to grab a dangerous ball after a foul gave the Golden Eagles a set-piece opportunity.

The breakthrough finally came in the 55th minute when Hailey Johnson capitalized on sustained pressure to put the Bisons ahead 1-0. Lipscomb continued to push forward, and their persistence paid off again in the 77th minute as Annessa Shivley doubled the lead.

Cesar secured the clean sheet with a diving save in the 84th minute, shutting down Tennessee Tech's late attempt at a comeback.

Lipscomb's control of possession and ability to capitalize sets a positive standard and a strong start to the season. The Bisons will look to build on the momentum when they return to action on Thursday's home opener against Murray State. The match will take place at 3 p.m. CDT.
