Lipscomb Women's Soccer fell for the first time this season, in a close 3-2 battle at the University of Miami on Thursday evening in a high-intensity match up that featured back-and-forth action from the opening whistle.
The Bisons struck first in the 11th minute when Bella Carapazza and London De Fini combined on a wide buildup that ended with Hailey Johnson's run across goal forcing a Miami own goal. The Hurricanes answered quickly, however, leveling the match in the 17th minute on a headed finish off a free kick service.
Lipscomb regained the lead midway through the first half when Annessa Shively pounced on a loose ball in the box and slotted a shot into the bottom left corner, putting the Bisons up 2-1. Miami attempted to level the score with applied pressure throughout the half on a series of set pieces, but goalkeeper Kaïna Cesar came up with two big saves to preserve the advantage heading into the break.
The Hurricanes pulled even again early in the second half, equalizing in the 55th minute before eventually breaking through in the 86th with the game-winner. Cesar finished with six saves, including a highlight-reel stop on a strike destined for the upper corner.
Despite the setback, Lipscomb battled physically throughout and created chances of their own, showcasing resilience against an ACC opponent on the road. The Bisons move to 2-1-1 on the season and will continue their road trip with a match against FAU on Sunday at 11am CT.
