The 12 have been sent.
A day that started just hours after the clock struck midnight, has now commenced just a couple hours before the clock strikes midnight again.
Over the last 2 months we have been preparing our hearts, minds, and souls to be right where are feet are now.
The day started with an early morning pick up and early drop off at the airport where we would be joined together as a complete 12 just minutes before our first flight began boarding. Once in our seats it felt like we could finally take a deep breath as the journey was officially beginning… only to be delayed by maintenance needed on the plane. What was a 30 minute delay, ended up being the perfect start to the trip. God used this 30 minutes as a time for us to laugh, bond and connect as a team before we could leave Nashville.
After arriving in Dallas with time to spare, we quickly fed into the groups competitive nature pulling out a deck of cards and learning a new game. It was during this time, relationships continued to grow, smiles got bigger, shells began to crack, and digs began to be thrown. However, as our time neared to board our last flight, once again we were hit with a delay - one that would be longer, but again was a blessing from the Lord. As we awaited our boarding time, more laughs were had, jokes were created, and shells were gone. It seemed as if before the Lord could have us on the ground in El Salvador he wanted to make sure we were ready, together, united as one. Us 12, like Jesus' 12 disciples were now ready to be sent out.
Finally, after boarding our plane and wheels going up, the long anticipated moment after hours of waiting occurred: WE MADE IT TO EL SALVADOR! From the moment we stepped on El Salvadoran soil, the presence of the Lord was evident in the joy we each exuded.
"Then our mouths were filled with laughter; our tongues sang for joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The Lord had done great things for them." The Lord has done great things for us; Oh, how happy we were!"
Psalms 126:2-3
A happiness and joy as the Lord had done great things for us in times of delay were now being carried in with us as we began what we had come here to do. We fueled ourselves and hit the road. Our first mission began teaching English to local El Salvadorans in the SOI English program. During this class we had the opportunity to build new friendships and share our expertise with those just beginning to learn the language. An evening of learning and growing for both the students and ourselves as we got a glimpse into what communicating with someone who spoke a different language was like. Then, as night came, we headed to our hotel for the week to refuel, recharge, and rest up after a long day.
