Bisons Split Doubleheader with Butler on Sunday

NASHVILLE, TN – Lipscomb Softball split Saturday's doubleheader with Butler, earning an 11–3 run-rule victory in Game 1 before falling 6–5 in extra innings in Game 2.

GAME 1: LIPSCOMB 11, BUTLER 3 (5 INNINGS)

Butler struck first in the opening inning with a two-run home run, but the Bisons quickly answered with an explosive second inning.

Mallory Ogle began the rally with an RBI single to score Presley Rader. Macyn Kirby followed with an RBI single before Chapel Cunningham drove in two runs with a base hit to give Lipscomb its first lead of the game.

Josephine Heuberger continued the surge with a two-run triple down the right-field line, while Brenna Sherman and Elizabeth Martin each added RBI singles. Elle Smith capped the nine-run frame with an RBI walk as Lipscomb built a commanding 9–2 lead.

The Bisons added two more runs in the fourth inning. MK Hickey reached on a throwing error that allowed Ogle to score, and Hickey later crossed the plate to push the advantage to 11–2.

Butler plated a run in the fifth inning, but Lipscomb secured the run-rule victory.

Cunningham and Heuberger each drove in two runs to lead the offensive effort in the opener.

GAME 2: BUTLER 6, LIPSCOMB 5 (8 INNINGS)

Butler jumped out to an early advantage in Game 2, scoring four runs in the second inning. The Bulldogs added another run in the fifth to extend the lead to 5–1.

Lipscomb began to rally in the third inning when Josephine Heuberger lifted a sacrifice fly to score Macyn Kirby.

The Bisons continued their comeback in the sixth inning as Kyla Jobe drove in Brenna Sherman with a sacrifice fly before Kirby delivered an RBI single to plate Elizabeth Martin. Chapel Cunningham followed with an RBI single to bring home Mallory Ogle and cut the deficit to 5–4.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Lipscomb completed the comeback when Ogle singled to center field to drive in Sherman and tie the game at 5–5, sending the contest into extra innings.

Butler responded in the top of the eighth inning with the go-ahead run and held off the Bisons in the bottom half to secure the victory.

Kirby and Cunningham each recorded RBIs during Lipscomb's sixth-inning rally, while Ogle delivered the game-tying hit in the seventh inning.

The Bisons will face #1 ranked Tennessee on Wednesday, March 11th at 5:00 p.m. right back at Draper Diamond.
