Jake Alexander

Jake Alexander joined the Lipscomb track and field staff in September 2020. 

Alexander took on the role of assistant track and field coach for jumps, sprints, and relays. In his time he has helped establish the Bisons' prevalence in field competitions, guiding athletes such as Bella Jackson and Aislinn McElhaney to the national stage.

He has helped coach Lipscomb athletes to four NCAA East Preliminary appearances - Jonathan Imes twice (2021 & 2022), Jackson in 2023, and McElhaney in 2023. Under his direction, McElhaney earned the 2023 ASUN Outdoor Champion title in the long jump.

Alexander joined the Bisons after a six-year stint at John Carroll University, where he worked with both the track and field and cross country squads. During the 2018-19 season, he was promoted to associate head men’s and women’s track and field coach.

While with the Blue Streaks, Alexander was named the USTFCCA’s Men’s Track and Field Assistant Coach of the Year for the Great Lakes Region for his efforts during the 2018 season. 

Alexander has been part of three award winning staffs during his first four seasons. He was a member of the John Carroll staff that was honored as the conference Men's Track & Field Staff of the Year at the 2018 OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, and was also honored in both 2015 and 2016 as a member of John Carroll's OAC Staff of the Year in women's cross country.

Alongside his duties as the sprints, hurdles, and relays coach at JCU, Alexander was also the head recruiting coordinator for track and field and cross country. 

During his time on the track, Alexander was a five-time All-GLIAC performer at Grand Valley State while competing in both sprints and relays. He served as team captain during his senior year and completed a degree in history. As a team Grand Valley State won seven out of eight GLIAC conference championships during his career. As a senior, Alexander was a team captain for the Lakers. He graduated with a degree in history.

After the end of his career on the track, Alexander joined the staff at GVSU as a volunteer assistant. 

Alexander assisted with hurdles, sprints, and jumps. Twenty of his charges earned All-American status. Additionally, 22 of his student-athletes had national qualifying times. Alexander assisted with Grand Valley State’s recruiting efforts including conducting on-campus and off-campus visits.
