The Lipscomb softball program welcomed Ken Hunt to the coaching staff in January of 2020.
Hunt comes to Nashville with over 30 years of fastpitch softball experience as both a coach and a player.
Hunt began his coaching career at High Point Christian Academy in 2004, where he started the program from its inception as a JV team and compiled a 55-26 varsity record as the head coach.
While at HPCA, Hunt led the team to a championship win in the only conference tournament that was played through the 2009 season, made regular appearances in the state tournament, and guided two pitchers to All-State selections.
Hunt was hired as an assistant coach at Salem College in 2010 to begin the recruiting process for another program he helped guide from inception through its first years of existence.
During his five seasons at Salem as an assistant and then Associate Head Coach before volunteering his last year, he was responsible for pitchers and outfielders. He led a number of players to All-Conference selections and guided an outfielder to conference Freshman of the Year as well as a pitcher to conference tournament MVP when Salem made their first-ever and only regional appearance his last year as Associate Head Coach.
In a Covid-shortened 2020 campaign at Lipscomb, he helped guide the top two pitchers to a 12-2 record to start the season. Both posted career best numbers in strikeouts per innings pitched and opponents' batting averages. Megan Gray earned two ASUN Pitcher of the Week awards in February with her only loss coming at Tennessee in early March before the season was abruptly halted.
Hunt has also earned the Four Star Master Coach recognition from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. On the field, he has spent the past 35 years playing men’s fast pitch and modified pitch against some of the nation’s best teams, as well as squads from Canada, Venezuela, and Mexico.
Hunt has been a member of both 40-and-over and 45-and-over national championship teams as well as a Men’s Open ASA runner-up. Individually, he was selected as an All-State centerfielder during the last year men’s fastpitch was recognized at the state level in North Carolina.
