After a three-year playing career wearing purple and gold, Jake Berg is in his second season on the Bisons coaching staff. After serving as a graduate assistant coach during the 2026 season, he was elevated to the full-time assistant coach role in 2027.
Playing from 2023-25 at Lipscomb, Berg spent the 2026 season as a graduate assistant and was a member of the ASUN Tournament Championship.
Working with defenders, he saw the program put together 22 defensive runs saved in 2026, including 16 from Hutson Miles, who earned the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove.
On the offensive side of the ball, he ran scouting report meetings and helped the program post a .289 batting average, which ranked in the top 100 in Division I.
In his three seasons wearing Purple and Gold as a player, Berg recorded 107 career hits and had an OPS of .760. In 2023, his 54 walks still stand as the most in program history.
He has two championship rings with the Bisons, including winning as a player in 2023.
Berg transferred to Lipscomb from ASUN foe Jacksonville, and he was a three-time All-Conference selection at Bayport High School.
Outside of the Bisons, he created an LLC named Berg Backstops, helping to train and develop elite catchers who thrive as both athletes and leaders.
The Green Bay, Wisconsin native graduated from Lipscomb with a bachelor’s degree in sports management and earned a master’s in performance studies. In addition, he has completed two graduate certificates in business leadership and performance coaching, also from Lipscomb.
