Tanner Smith joined Lipscomb University's Athletic Operations staff as an assistant in 2021. In June 2025, he was promoted to Director of Athletics Operations, where he oversees athletic facility operations, supervises student workers and works closely with coaches, officials, visiting teams and campus partners.
In the spring of 2025, he was recognized as the Lipscomb Athletics Staff Member of the Year.
With the Bisons, Smith works closely with student-athletes and is committed to supporting them in any way possible, helping create a positive environment where they can succeed both on and off the playing field. His responsibilities include assisting with field maintenance and preparation, managing the day-to-day operations of indoor athletic facilities, and ensuring athletic venues are safe, functional and ready for practices and competitions.
Prior to his time with Lipscomb, his previous experience includes working with Vanderbilt University Athletics, Middle Tennessee State University and Creative Artists Agency.
He graduated from Western Kentucky in 2019 with a bachelor's degree in sport and fitness administration/management. In 2021, he earned a master's from WKU in recreation and sports administration, with an emphasis on event and facility management.
Tanner is married to his wife Annie, and they have a son, Deacon.
