Lipscomb Lady Bisons golfer Katie Pursell beat Jilian Brodd from the University of Mississippi in the first round of match play in the 69th Women’s Amateur Championship at the Memphis Country Club.

Pursell, a junior from Hendersonville, Tenn., held a three-stroke lead over Brodd with two holes left to play to end the match. Pursell advances in the tournament which runs through Saturday.

Pursell will face another Southeastern Conference challenger in round two, Alyssa Randolph from the University of Kentucky.
