Wolfe Leads Bisons to OT Win Against SEMO

NASHVILLE – It took extra time, but behind Jake Wolfe's 26-point performance, the Lipscomb men's basketball team gutted out an 80-74 overtime win Wednesday night in the home opener at Allen Arena.
With the Bisons (2-4) down three, the junior nailed a step-back three from the left wing as the buzzer sounded to send the game to overtime. From there, it was all Lipscomb. The sophomore finished 6-of-11 from the floor and 12-of-14 at the free throw line, while scoring 21 of his 26 points after halftime.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After the two sides traded buckets through the first 13 minutes, Lipscomb began to find its stroke. Down one, the Bisons reeled off a 17-3 run and got five three-pointers from four different players to take a 32-22 advantage into halftime.
Less than four minutes into the second half, Lipscomb had built its largest lead of the night at 40-25 after Romeao Ferguson got a turn-around floater to go from the paint.
But just as quickly as the Bisons had built that lead, it nearly got away from them. The Redhawks flipped the script with a 30-6 run and with 6:11 left in the game, Lipscomb found itself down nine.
After being whistled for a technical foul that led to four free throws for SEMO, Wolfe took it upon himself to get the Bisons back in control. He got to the line six times over the next minute and a half, and sank every shot.
With Lipscomb down four with 50 seconds left in regulation, Wolfe hit another free throw and followed it with a layup to pull within one at 61-60. SEMO's Jordan Love was later fouled with 11 seconds to play and went to the stripe where he hit just 1-of-2, setting the stage for Wolfe's heroics.
In overtime, Greg Jones put the purple and gold up for good with his third 3-pointer and the Bisons sealed the win by going a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line over the last 2:30.
