ATLANTA, Ga. – The 2020 ASUN Conference Men’s Basketball Postseason Awards are starting to roll in and Michael Buckland and Ahsan Asadullah are the first two Lipscomb players to be honored, as the duo were named to the 2019-20 ASUN All-Academic Team on Monday.
The Bisons were one of three teams to land multiple selections on the eight-member team that honors both academic achievement and competition on the court.
Buckland earned the honor for the second-consecutive year boasting a 3.84 grade point average (GPA) while majoring in Corporate Marketing. Despite being slowed by an injury early this season, the senior has been a key component in the team’s rise to a third-place finish in the league standings.
The High Point, North Carolina native posted career highs at nearly every statistical category. Overall he’s averaging 10.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals per game in 34.8 minutes. He ranks in the top-10 of eight different ASUN categories, including second in minutes and 3-point percentage (41.6%).
Buckland has posted 14 games with double-digit points, including a career high 25 against Kennesaw State with six triples. He is the team’s second-leading assist man and has hit a career high 47 three-pointers.
Asadullah picks up the honor for the first time behind a 3.44 GPA in the classroom as a Finance major. The sophomore center has been the most dominant player in the ASUN this season, ranking in the top-10 of 14 different categories in the league.
He’s started in 27 of the 28 games in which he’s played, putting together a line of 17.4 points, 9.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. He is the only player in the country in Division I averaging at least 17.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists each time out.
The Atlanta product ranks second in the ASUN with 13 double-doubles, 10 of which came in conference play. He’s also scored in double figures in 26 of the 28 games, including 15 straight to end the regular season.
Asadullah is second in the conference in total assists (112), after putting together five games this season with eight or more helpers. He nearly recorded a triple-double on multiple occasions, but none was closer than his 17-point, 14-rebound, and 9-assist effort at North Florida. He scored a career high 28 points at home against Kennesaw State.
Lipscomb opens play in the ASUN Championship on Tuesday night as the No. 3 seed hosting No. 6 FGCU. To purchase tickets visit http://www.LipscombTickets.com or call 615-966-HERD (4373).
