
Men's soccer earns four spots on ASUN All-Decade Team

ATLANTA, Ga. - The ASUN Conference announced the Men's Soccer 2010-19 All-Decade Team as 26 student-athletes were named to the list across eight programs. FGCU led the way with eight student-athletes named to the All-Decade Team followed by four each from ETSU and Lipscomb.
Over the past 10 years, five programs have captured ASUN Championship titles in FGCU (4), ETSU (2), Lipscomb (2), NJIT (1) and North Florida (1), while the Eagles won a conference-best seven ASUN Regular Season crowns over the last 10 years. Lipscomb and North Florida both have a pair of regular-season crowns, while NJIT and Stetson collected one. ASUN squads notched three NCAA Tournament victories during the decade headlined by Lipscomb's run to the Sweet 16 in 2018. FGCU advanced to the Second Round in 2016.
To be named to the All-Decade Team an individual must have competed for at least two years in the decade as an ASUN student-athlete. Individuals that obtained one of the following criteria were named to the team; three First Team All-Conference selections, four All-Conference selections or multiple Scholar-Athlete/Player of the Year honors. Individuals that obtained at least two of the following criteria were also named to the team; Player/Tournament MVP/Freshman/Defensive Player/Goalkeeper/Scholar-Athlete of the Year, three All-Conference selections, two First Team All-Conference selections or ASUN Career Record Holder.
2010-19 Men's Soccer All-Decade Team (listed in alphabetical order by last name)
Shak Adams, FGCU (2016-19)- A three-time All-Conference First Team selection (2017-19), Adams earned All-Freshmen Team distinction in his inaugural collegiate campaign in 2016. A two-time Player of the Week, he was a member of FGCU's 2016 NCAA Tournament squad that reached the Second Round and earned All-Tournament Team honors in 2019 as the Eagles advanced to the Championship Final.
Ivan Alvarado, Lipscomb (2014-17)
- A four-time First Team All-Conference selection from 2014-17, one of only three players in ASUN Men's Soccer history to achieve that honor. Alvarado helped lead the Bisons to the program's first-ever ASUN Championship title in 2017, defeating JAX 2-1. He also is in the Top-10 for most assists in a single-season with eight in 2014, helping him earn the Freshman of the Year.
Will Betts, Mercer (2009-12)
- The only player in ASUN Men's Soccer history to earn back-to-back Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in 2011 and 2012. Betts started 74 games in his four-year career as a Bear, ranking among the Top-30 in ASUN history for most career starts. Mercer also made two ASUN Championship Finals.
Jay Bolt, North Florida (2013-16)
- The only Osprey to be named Defensive Player of the Year in ASUN Men's Soccer history, Bolt helped UNF earn the program's first-ever ASUN Championship title anchoring the backline that posted a shutout in the 2015 Championship final (7-0). He is also a three-time All-Conference and All-Tournament Team selection.
Fredrik Brustad, Stetson (2008-10)
- The first of two Hatters to be named Player of the Year, earning the honor in 2010 after leading the league in scoring at 20 points and sitting second in goals (7). Brustad is also a two-time First Team All-Conference member and helped Stetson capture the ASUN Championship title in 2009, landing him a spot on the All-Tournament team.
Ryan Coulter, ETSU (2011-13)
- Coulter holds the top spot in a pair of categories in the ASUN record book for lowest career GAA (0.95) and single-season shutouts (10). He is also second in career shutouts with 25. During his three years competing in the conference, Coulter was a two-time Goalkeeper of the Year (2012, 2013), two-time All-Tournament Team selection (2011, 2013) and a six-time Player of the Week honoree. The netminder led his ETSU squad to the ASUN Championship title in 2013.
David Geno, ETSU (2010-13)
- The ASUN's Player of the Year in 2012, Geno led the Buccaneers to the ASUN title in 2013, a year in which he was received his third All-Conference First Team honor. He was also a three-time All-Tournament Team selection (2010-11, 2013) and ranks fourth in the conference record book for career game-winning goals with 11.
Adam Glick, FGCU (2007-11)
- The first Defensive Player of the Year in the decade, Glick's name is seen three times in the conference's career record book. The goalkeeper ranks fifth in shutouts (19), 13th in GAA (1.25) and 18th in saves (260) during his career. A six-time Player of the Week selection and two-time All-Conference First Team member (2010-11), Glick was part of two ASUN Regular Season champion squads (2010-11) and one ASUN Championship title team (2011).
Aaron Guillen, FGCU (2012-15)
- Guillen was named the 2015 ASUN Defensive Player of the Year earned his third First Team All-Conference nod (2013-15) that same season. He was a member of four consecutive Regular Season title teams (2012-15) for FGCU and helped lead the Eagles to the 2012 and 2014 ASUN Championship titles.
Itode Fubara, ETSU (2010-13)
- One of only three players to earn four All-Conference honors in the decade, Fubara was named to the First Team three times (2010, 2012, 2013) and landed on the 2011 Second Team. He was awarded the 2010 ASUN Freshman of the Year honor while picking up Tournament MVP accolades the same season. In the ASUN record book, Fubara ranks 11th for career matches started with 73 in league history.
Nathan Ingham, FGCU (2011-15)
- A member of three ASUN Championship teams, Ingham is one of only four players in conference history to earn two Tournament MVP honors (2011, 2014) in his career. During the 2011 campaign, he was also selected the Goalkeeper of the Year and his six Defensive Player of the Week accolades are tied for the most in ASUN history. Ingham also recorded a league record 26 shutouts during his career while ranking second in career GAA at 0.98.
Joe Kerridge, Lipscomb (2014-17)
- A three-time All-Conference selection from 2015-17, earning back-to-back First Team honors in 2016 and 2017. Kerridge is one of just six Bisons' to have earned at least three All-Conference honors. He also landed a spot on the 2016 ASUN Championship Team after netting a goal in the 3-0 shutout against Stetson.
Ian McCauley, Stetson (2015-19)
- The reigning Defensive Player of the Year and two-time First Team All-Conference selection, McCauley anchored the Hatters backline that posted the second-best goals-against average this 2019 season (1.51). In his career at Stetson, he started 63 of his 64 contests.
Jonathan Mendoza, Stetson (2009-12)
- A three-time First Team All-Conference selection, three-time All-Tournament team member and the 2011 Player of the Year, Mendoza helped the Hatters claim the program's second ASUN Championship title in 2009. He is also among the league's top players since 2006, ranking 11th for goals scored in a single-season (11; 2011), 13th for most points (27; 2011) and most assists (10;2010).
Alex Morrell, North Florida (2012-15)
- Only player in ASUN history to assist on three goals in a single-game during the ASUN Championship, doing so in the 7-0 victory over USC Upstate in the 2015 final. Earned his first All-Tournament honor after helping the Ospreys secure the program's first-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament in his final season. Morrell is also a three-time All-Conference selection earning a First Team nod in 2015.
O'Vonte Mullings, FGCU (2018-pres.)
- Mullings, the 2018 ASUN Freshman of the Year, has been named to the All-Conference First Team in his first two seasons at FGCU (2018-19) along with earning a spot on the 2019 All-Tournament Team after helping guide his Eagle squad to the ASUN Championship title match. A three-time Player of the Week recipient, Mullings was apart of the 2018 FGCU Regular Season Champion team.
Logan Paynter, Lipscomb (2015-18)
- One of only three players in ASUN Men's Soccer history to earn four-consecutive First Team All-Conference selections from 2015-18. In 2018, Paynter was named Player of the Year, Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Championship MVP after leading the Bisons to the program's second-straight championship title and netting both goals in the final against Stetson. He also helped Lipscomb become the first team to advance past the second round of the NCAA Tournament since 1996 while adding a goal against Kentucky.
Garret Pettis, Lipscomb (2008-11)
- The 2008 Freshman of the Year and two-time First Team All-Conference selection, Pettis netted 12 goals his first year as a Bison while tallying 25 points. He also scored four goals in a single-game during his senior campaign in a 5-0 shutout win over UNF, putting his name in the ASUN record book for most goals by an individual in a single-game (T7) and an ASUN contest (T2).
Helge Pietschmann, North Florida (2014-15)
- Of the seven goals in the 2015 ASUN Championship Final against Upstate, Pietschmann netted three and assisted on one, making him the only player in ASUN history to score three goals in a single game in the Championship. With the assist, he also became the only player to total seven points. The two-time First Team All-Conference selection was named the Tournament MVP for the 2015 Championship after an outstanding showing as the Ospreys snagged the title for the first time.
Albert Ruiz, FGCU (2014-17)
- Ruiz stakes claim to the most points (46) and goals (22) recorded in the decade as he accomplished the feat in 2016. That same year, he finished runner-up for the MAC Hermann Trophy, was named the ASUN Player of the Year and led FGCU to the ASUN Championship title en route to being named Tournament MVP. Ruiz was a three-time First Team All-Conference selection (2015-17) and earned three Player of the Week awards in his career.
Nicolas Samayoa, FGCU (2014-17)
- The 2017 ASUN Defensive Player of the Year, Samayoa ended his career as a three-time All-Conference recipient taking home First Team honors in 2016-17 and being named to the Second Team in 2015. He guided FGCU to a pair of ASUN Championship titles (2014, 2016) and was a member of the Eagles teams which reached the Second Round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
Rodrigo Saravia, FGCU (2012-15)
- Saravia, a member of the 2012 and 2014 FGCU ASUN Championship teams, was named the league's Player of the Year during the 2015 season. In 2015, he also collected his first All-Tournament Team selection while being named to both the All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team in 2014.
Marvin Schmiege, USC Upstate (2012-14)
- Named the 2014 Player and Scholar-Athlete of the Year after leading the league with nine goals and sitting second in total points (20). Schmiege is a two-time All-Conference selection with a First Team nod in 2014. In his three seasons, he posted a .547 shots on goal percentage.
Aaron Schoenfeld, ETSU (2008-11)
- Schoenfeld earned three All-Conference Team honors taking home two First Team selections this decade in 2010 and 2011 along with a Second Team award in 2009. His three honors make him one of only two ETSU players to collect three in their careers (David Geno). A two-time Player of the Week, Schoenfeld was also a three-time All-Tournament selection and was a member of the 2011 All-Academic Team.
Josh Shutter, Mercer (2010-13)
- The only Mercer Bear to be named the ASUN Defensive Player of the Year, Shutter anchored the Mercer backline that helped post a season-low 0.87 goals-against average for the 2012 season. He is also a three-time All-Conference selection, earning two First Team nods in 2011 and 2012.
Brandon Tarr, Belmont (2009-11)
- Tarr earned All-Conference honors three years being named First Team in 2011 and selected to the Second Team in 2009 and 2010. His four Player of the Week awards are the most by any Belmont player and are tied for the fifth-most in ASUN history. In addition, Tarr was named the ASUN's Freshman of the Year in 2009.
