Lawley takes home TGA Mid-Amateur Championship

NASHVILLE - The Bisons golf program continued its impressive run of summer tournament wins as Lipscomb women's golf head coach Jesse Lawley won the Tennessee Golf Association Women's Mid-Amateur Championship on Thursday at the Richland Country Club.

"I played consistent golf," Lawley said. "I think I only had one penalty stroke, no doubles, and only one three-put, so a lot of fairways and greens."

Lawley shot an even par 72-72, 144 across the two rounds to take the crown by 10 strokes over second place Teleri Hughes (80-74, 154).

"Obviously the men's team has played here, so [Lipscomb men's golf head coach] Will Brewer gave me some insight," Lawley said. "Richland Country Club is a great facility. They have a great staff, great people. They do a fantastic job hosting us.

"The TGA and their staff did an excellent job. They host world class events for the women and men here in Tennessee. They do a great job of representing golf."

Lawley's tournament performance joins her with Lipscomb signee Jack Morris, who won the Tennessee Junior Amateur in June, and graduate senior Nolan Ray, who won the Tennessee State Amateur in August.

"I hope to continue this with the girls, and I hope this motivates the girls heading into the fall," Lawley said. "I just hope this motivates them and that they know that I'm grinding and getting better as a coach to help them. Again, this is such a privilege to represent Lipscomb in athletic events like this, and I'm always so proud to wear the Purple and Gold."
