KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The future is bright for the Lipscomb men's golf program.
 
On Thursday, 2020 Bison signee Jack Morris finished off a dominating and record-breaking win at the Tennessee Junior Amateur after building a sizable lead through the first two rounds.   
 
Entering the final day with a 6-stroke cushion, the Franklin native increased the margin to as many as 10 strokes before finishing off a record-setting performance to win the 61st version of the championship at Three Ridges Golf Course in Knoxville.
 
Morris, who will begin playing for Lipscomb this fall, finished seven strokes ahead of Shelbyville's Evan Woosley-Reed – a University of Tennessee commitment.
 
"It's an awesome last (junior) tournament to have," Morris said.  "It gives me a lot of confidence and hopefully I can carry it in to this fall."
 
"All my friends were playing this week, so it was awesome to play with them. It was a great feel.  It's nice to see all of my hard work pay off."
 
Morris finished the tournament at 15-under-par (201) for the three days, built largely on his second-round 63 that equaled the record for the lowest round ever shot in the event.
 
He practically rewrote the Tennessee Junior Amateur record books with his performance.  Here is a look at the tournament records that he either broke or equaled:

• Lowest score for 54 holes, 201 (previously 202, William Nottingham 2016)

• Lowest score for 9 holes, 30 (previously 31, Davis Shore 2014, William Nottingham 2016)

Morris shot a final-round 69 on Thursday, despite the fact that he had a double-bogey on 16 and a bogey on 7.  He more than offset those with four birdies and an eagle on 12.
 
"I pretty much just went out there and tried to make my lead bigger today," Morris said.  "I didn't really worry about where everybody else was at.  I just played my game.  It worked well the past two days."
 
Over the three tournament rounds, Morris made 18 birdies and two eagles.  He tapped in an easy par on 18 to conclude his tournament and was greeted by hugs from his parents as he walked off the green.  A large contingent of his competitors waited around to congratulate him as he made his way to scoring.
 
Morris' final-round 69 was one of 21 red numbers turned in by the field in the final round. 

With Morris' win, Lipscomb men's golf now rosters both the Tennessee State Amateur and the Tennessee State Junior Amateur champions after Nolan Ray brought home the the State Am in August. 
 
With the All-American Ray returning for another campaign, and Morris joining the squad in the fall, the future is indeed bright for a program that was ranked 89^th nationally by GolfStat following a shortened 2019-20 season.
