NASHVILLE – Lipscomb Director of Golf Will Brewer has announced the addition of Eric Gilpin to the men's golf coaching staff. Gilpin will help Brewer lead the men's golf team as an assistant coach.
Â
"We had a lot of candidates that were interested in the opportunity and Eric stood out from day one on the fact that I knew him, and he played for us for one year," Brewer said. "He's got great college experience with three different colleges and now four as an interim head coach at Southern Illinois. His personality and desire run congruent with what we are trying to do with our culture. I'm really excited and think he will be a great addition to our program."
Â
Gilpin, a member of the 2018-19 Lipscomb men's golf team, returns to the Music City after spending time as a graduate assistant for the men's golf team at Southern Illinois and was recently promoted to interim head coach. During his lone season as a Bison, Gilpin competed in all but one event over the course of the season, was a team captain and tied for third at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate.
Â
"I am very excited to return to Lipscomb and join Coach Brewer in the pursuit of excellence for the men's golf program," Gilpin said. "I know from personal experience how impactful being a member of this program is, how valuable the education is, and how special the Lipscomb community is. I am very grateful to Coach Brewer and Philip Hutcheson for the opportunity. I look forward to helping our current players improve, grow in faith, and become authentic men. From a recruiting standpoint, I can't wait to make an impact and continue the success that Coach Brewer has had in finding strong players with character and developing them into successful young men. Let's go! Go Bisons!"
Â
Before his collegiate career at Lipscomb, Gilpin also played at Indian Hills Community College (2015-17) and Winthrop (2017-18). He was a national semifinalist for the Jack Nicklaus Award (NJCAA Player of the Year) as a sophomore at IHCC and earned GCAA All-America Scholar honors and tallied four top-15 finishes at Winthrop.
Â
Gilpin earned his bachelor's degree in finance from Lipscomb in 2019 and has a master's in sports studies from SIU.
