Bisons fall to FGCU in series opener

NASHVILLE The Lipscomb men's basketball team dropped its weekend opener to Florida Gulf Coast, 79-69, Friday night in Allen Arena.

The loss was the second in a row for the Bisons, who fell to 9-8 overall and 4-3 in ASUN Conference play. FGCU improved to 6-4 and earned its first league victory, moving to 1-2.

Senior Romeao Ferguson continued to play well for the purple and gold, pouring in a season-high 22 points with eight rebounds and two assists. He shot 8-of-14 and is now averaging 20.3 points over his last three games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After jumping out to an 11-0 lead to start the game and a 36-32 advantage at halftime, the Bisons couldn't stop the high-flying Eagles in the final 20 minutes. FGCU shot 50 percent in the second half and hit seven of its 11 three-pointers.

Lipscomb led by as many as seven in the second half following a 3-pointer from Jake Wolfe immediately out of the break, but the Eagles outscored the Bisons 47-30 the rest of the way.

Parker Hazen put the Bisons in front with a pair of free throws, 49-48, at the 13:10 mark. It would be their final lead as FGCU would hit four triples over the next seven minutes, eventually leading to an 11-point lead.

Down seven, Ahsan Asadullah and Ferguson made back-to-back buckets to get the game to one possession, but FGCU nailed back-to-back 3-pointers to quickly extend the lead out to nine.
