BISONS NOTCH FOUR GOALS IN ROUT OF JACKSONVILLE STATE

Final Score: Lipscomb 4, Jacksonville State 1
Location: Nashville, Tenn. (Lipscomb Soccer Complex)
Records: Lipscomb 10-4-1 (5-2 ASUN), Jacksonville State 6-8-2 (2-4-1 ASUN)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With a career-high three-point performance, Haley Williams lifted the Bisons to a 4-1 victory at home over Jacksonville State to climb into second place in the ASUN West Division on Thursday night.

The Bisons wasted no time getting their attack going. Just six minutes into the match Williams played a ball in to the center of the penalty area setting up a tap-in chance for Grant who finished the opportunity with class to give the Bisons an early 1-0 lead.

As time went on, the game grinded to a halt. Both teams settled in defensively while the Bisons found it difficult to get the timing right on their runs in behind the Gamecocks' back line. The frustration showed itself in the box score as Lipscomb was flagged offside a total of 15 times in the match. The half ended with the Bisons owning just a 1-0 lead while outshooting their opponents by a margin of 9-3.

In the 67th minute Williams once again made her mark as she dribbled past two defenders before tucking her shot inside the far post for 2-0, and the rout was on. Less than ten minutes later, Grace Oliver picked out a far-post run from Skye Baun, who tapped in Lipscomb's third goal of the match.

Jacksonville State would pull a goal back when the team was awarded a penalty kick after a sliding challenge from Alivia Carapazza brought down a Gamecock's attacker on the outskirts of the area. Kylie Wells converted from the spot.

Late in the 88th minute, Kristi Jones received a ball played over the back line and was in on goal. The senior forward took one touch in an attempt to sidestep the goalkeeper, but was taken down and earned a penalty kick of her own. Jones took the chance from the spot herself and blasted it into the net to make the score 4-1.

Lipscomb now sits just three points off the ASUN West Division leaders, Central Arkansas, who are scheduled to visit the Lipscomb Soccer Complex for the regular season finale on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m.
