NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Powered by four-point performances from
Cami Rogers and
Molly Grant, Lipscomb put six goals past Jacksonville State to breeze into the semifinal round of the ASUN Championship on Friday afternoon.
Lipscomb started the game on a blistering pace. Just ten minutes into the match the Bisons capitalized on early dominance when a long ball was received by Grant behind the Gamecocks back line. The center forward carried deep into the penalty area and squared a ball for Rogers to blast into the center of goal for a 1-0 lead.
The Bisons clearly were not satisfied with the early lead. Four minutes after opening the scoring,
Kammy McGee ran on a bouncing ball in the area. With a little flick on the volley, McGee placed the ball just inside the far post to double the lead for Lipscomb.
The Bisons still weren't done. Grant squared yet another ball to the left side for Rogers to send home before the halftime whistle blew.
In the second period of play, the Bisons quickly snuffed out any hope of a Jacksonville State comeback. Excellent buildup play from the Bisons in the 60
th minute culminated in a goal for Grant as she flicked a ball past the goalkeeper to extend the lead to four.
Late goals from
Noa Ganthier and
Shadia Valenzuela pushed Lipscomb's lead to six and cemented the Bisons place in the final four.
On the defensive end the Bisons were dominant once again. Lipscomb allowed eight shots to the Gamecocks while goalkeeper of the year,
CJ Graham, equaled a career high with seven saves between the pipes.
