NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A brace from Lipscomb's
Molly Grant fueled the Bisons attack that was once again on display in the ASUN tournament. Lipscomb thumped four goals past the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky to exact revenge on the divisional foe and punch their ticket to the team's sixth ASUN Final appearance in the last seven years.
The teams entered the game with extremely similar play styles. Both Lipscomb and EKU looked to put pressure on the opposing back line and command possession in their attacking third. The western division rivals traded blows early, but neither was able to find the net.
As the teams settled into the match, Eastern Ky. began to grab hold of the game and dictate possession. The pressure asked serious questions of the Lipscomb defense, but
CJ Graham and her back line were up to the challenge and made sure the Colonels did not capitalize on the early dominance.
Eastern Kentucky was unable to keep the potent offense of the Bisons silent forever. In the second half the floodgates opened. It began when
Emanuela Schurch collected a ball just inside the half field line. Carrying deep into EKU territory the midfielder sidestepped two defenders before fizzing a ball into Grant. Off one bounce the forward controlled the ball and buried her chance to give Lipscomb the advantage.
In the 67
th minute the
Logan McFadden stood over a free kick just a few yards inside EKU territory. With a booming right foot, the center back smashed the kick directly into the net for her second goal of the season to double Lipscomb's lead.
The Bisons were not done yet. Schurch added a goal to her point tally with an impressive finish into the top right corner of goal, while Grant bagged another on a rocket scored from 35 yards out.
