Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Season comes to an end for volleyball in an ASUN Championship battle

FORT MYERS, Fla. – In a match that seemed to be in the defending champions favor for most of the night, unfortunately some important balls and calls just didn't go the Bisons way as the Lipscomb volleyball team fell 3-1 to No. 3E North Florida in the first round of the ASUN Championship Thursday inside Alico Arena.

The purple and gold ends its season 14-13 overall, while UNF improves to 24-6.

Kamryn Bacus led the offense with 11 kills, while Meg Mersman added 10 kills and four blocks for a team-high 12.5 points. She also led the team with a .450 hitting percentage on 20 swings (one error).

Delaney Dilfer powered the attack with 37 assists, while chipping in with six digs. Logan Gish just missed another double-double with nine kills and 10 digs. Addi Pelham was a force all match on both sides of the net as she recorded nine kills, hit .360 and blocked a career high six balls.

SET 1
UNF opened up the match with a 6-3 advantage, before back-to-back swings from Logan Gish and Meg Mersman capped a 7-1 run to give the Bisons a 10-7 lead. Bacus then recorded three kills in a five-point span as the purple and gold mounted a 10-2 run to put some cushion between them and the Ospreys at 19-11. A block from Mersman and Pelham sealed the opening-set win for Lipscomb, 25-16.

The Bisons outhit the Ospreys .280 to -.086 and forced 13 UNF miscues on the attack. Bacus had four kills and the team combined for four blocks, led by three from Kat Lowry.

SET 2
The second set was tight throughout with seven ties and four lead changes. Early errors put the Bisons in an 8-2 hole before climbing out later in the frame with a 10-4 run. Gish served up back-to-back aces to help Lipscomb take its first lead at 14-13.

The game went back-and-forth until the score was tied at 21. UNF was able to withstand kills from Anna Aubele and Gish to get a set-clinching kill from Dariana Santana-Hollingsworth at 25-23.

SET 3
The third frame was a back-and-forth affair from the very first point. The Bisons and Ospreys tied 17 times and traded lead changes, but neither side was able to gain more than a two-point advantage throughout.

After a kill from Pelham put Lipscomb in front 5-3, the next 21 points were traded back-and-forth until UNF got a kill from Bre Walp to go in front 16-14. But the Bisons never faltered and eventually took a 22-20 lead, forcing the Ospreys to call timeout.

Following a no-call that allowed the Ospreys to pull back even, UNF used the momentum to a set point before a ball handling error tied the score at 24. A service error and then a kill from UNF put a close to the set, 26-24. Lipscomb hit .270 in the frame as Bacus led the way with four kills.

SET 4
UNF raced out to a 5-1 lead, and then a 10-4  advantage, forcing Lipscomb to call both of its timeouts. The Bisons were able to get it back to within three on a couple of occasions on kills from Aubele, but UNF was able to maintain its distance and clinched the match with three kills in the final four points.

UNF outhit the Bisons .432 to .226, despite the purple and gold only having three attack errors in the set.
