Bisons use long ball to cruise past Kentucky Christian 86-67

NASHVILLE – Jacob Ognacevic scored a game-high 27 points and Greg Jones added a season-high 17 to lead the Lipscomb men's basketball team to an 86-67 victory over Kentucky Christian Sunday afternoon at Allen Arena.

The Bisons improved to 5-2 on the year with the win and placed four in double-figures for the fourth time this season.

Ognacevic was two rebounds shy of a double-double, finishing with eight, while Jones pulled down five boards and drained a game-high four threes.

Kaleb Coleman came off the bench and lit it up with a career-high 13 points behind three first-half triples, and reeled in a career-high seven rebounds. Parker Hazen contributed 12 points and five rebounds in 22 minutes.
 
FIRST HALF: Lipscomb 45 – Kentucky Christian 33
  • The first three buckets of the game for the Bisons were three-pointers before back-to-back dunks from Ognacevic and Hazen.
  • Lipscomb's next 12 shots were all from behind the arc, draining five of them.
  • After leading 12-9, the purple and gold used a 16-2 run to build a 28-11 advantage at the under-12 media.
  • The Bisons held the Knights scoreless over the last 3:49 of the first half, and used five free throws down the stretch to take a 45-33 lead into the break.
  • Jones led the team with 12 points, while Ognacevic added 10.
  • Jones and Coleman each hit three triples in the first 20 minutes.
  • Nine of the team's 14 field goals made were from three-point range.
  • Lipscomb won the battle on the boards 25-20 and turned the ball over just five times.
  • The Bisons shot 43.8 percent from the floor overall (14-32), made 8-of-10 from the stripe and connected on 9-of-23 from deep (39.1%).
 
SECOND HALF: Lipscomb 41 – Kentucky Christian 34
  • Lipscomb scored the first seven points of the half to build a 49-33 lead, six of which came off the hand of Ognacevic. KCU ended its drought on a layup (17:18).
  • The Knights used runs of 7-0 and 6-1 to help cut the Bisons lead down to 12 with 11:02 to play.
  • After the Bisons grabbed an offensive board to keep the possession alive, Tanner Shulman buried a triple to spark a 9-0 purple and gold run that pushed their lead to 21 at 71-50, the largest of the game.
  • KCU never got any closer than 16 points the rest of the way until the Bisons sealed the 86-67 victory.
  • Ognacevic scored 17 of his 27 points in the second half on 6-of-9 shooting.
  • Hazen added seven points and Jones chipped in five as eight different Bisons reached the scoring column after halftime.
  • The Bisons shot 48.1 percent overall (13-27) in the half, and went 11-of-16 from the stripe (68.8%).

  • Lipscomb never trailed in the game
  • Five Bisons recorded five or more rebounds with Ognacevic and Will Pruitt leading the way with eight.
  • Lipscomb's 13 three-pointers is the most the team has made in a game this season.
  • Coleman converted a career high three buckets from three-point range for the Bisons
  • Ognacevic has tallied 20 points or more for the fifth time in his career and for the fourth time as a Bison. 
  • Ognacevic has also tallied 20 points in three of Lipscomb's last four games. 
  • Lipscomb went 27-of-59 from the floor (45.8%), 13-of-35 from deep (37.1%) and 19-of-26 from the charity stripe (73.1%).
  • Lipscomb has hit 10+ threes in four games this season. Last year they reached that mark just seven outings.
  • The Bisons won the rebounding battle 46-32, their most boards in a game this season.
  • KJ Johnson scored six points with four assists, two rebounds and three turnovers in 26 minutes.
  • Will Pruitt finished with four points, three assists and four turnovers.
  • The Bisons have collected 19 or more assists for the third straight game, and for the fourth time in five outings.

As the calendar flips to December, the Bisons will make the trip down the Boulevard on Thursday for the annual renewing of the 'Battle of the Boulevard'. The two rivals will tip at 7 p.m. on ESPN+ inside the Curb Event Center.
