NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Led by ASUN Tournament MVP
Shelby Craft and a game winning goal from
Kammy McGee, Lipscomb downed Kennesaw State in route to the program's third ASUN Championship in four years in front of a record crowd on Saturday night.
Molly Grant set the tone in the early goings as she rattled a shot off the crossbar and put the Owls on their heels. Just a few minutes later it was
Cami Rogers who took her chance from the left wing but saw her shot drift just wide of the post.
In the 22
nd minute of play
Katia Hanger played a pall down the right wing to Grant who rifled a ball into the box to
Kammy McGee who was there to tap home the go-ahead goal sending the Bison crowd of 623 into a frenzy.
Lipscomb continued to bombard the Owls with pressure creating chance after chance in the Kennesaw State area. The Owls best chance of the game came just before the end of the first half when the Owls put a dangerous free kick in to the feet of a Kennesaw State attacker. Graham raced off her line to thwart the effort while proceeding to keep ball from crossing the byline to save an Owls throw.
The Bisons showed their defensive class in the second half as they stood their ground when Kennesaw State began to battle back in the possession battle. Despite a lull in the opening moments of the second half, Lipscomb remained in control of the game and limited Kennesaw State to just two shots in the match while hanging on to win the program's third title in four years.
As the ASUN Champions, Lipscomb named four players to the All-Tournament team. The first of which,
Shelby Craft, also took home MVP honors.
