Volleyball sweeps Bellarmine to wrap up month-long road trip

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Lipscomb volleyball bounced back Saturday with a decisive 3-0 sweep of Bellarmine at Knights Hall.

The win improved the Bisons to 12-12 overall and 9-5 in ASUN Conference action. It also wraps up a month-long road trip that saw the purple and gold play eight straight matches away from Nashville.

Lipscomb dominated Bellarmine from the first serve, hitting a season high .356 on offense while committing just five attack errors.

Sophomore Meg Mersman powered the purple and gold on both sides of the net. She hit .455 with a team-high 12 kills, and matched her career high with nine blocks.

Freshman right side Addi Pelham registered 10 kills behind a blistering .500 clip, while senior Garrett Joiner added eight kills with no errors.

Delaney Dilfer orchestrated the attack with 31 assists, while adding five digs, three blocks and a pair of kills. Delaney Smith led the team with 12 digs and three aces, while Logan Gish also finished in double figures with 10 digs.

The Bisons hit .441 in the first set behind 16 kills and just one error. Mersman and Pelham combined for 10 kills, a .667 clip and three blocks.

In the second set, Lipscomb closed on a 21-6 run and held the Knights to a -.054 hitting percentage. The Bisons swung .290 with 10 kills and one error, while Joiner paced the way with five kills.

The purple and gold closed out the match behind Mersman's six kills in the third frame. Five different Bisons landed multiple swings as they outhit BU .333 to .032.
 
 
NOTES
  • Lipscomb outhit BU .356 to .048 on the day, and totaled 41 kills to their 27.
  • The five attack errors are the fewest for the Bisons in a match since at least the 2016 season, and the first time since November 2019 they had single-digit errors.
  • Mersman reached double-digit kills for the 11th time this season. Her nine blocks matches her total versus Stetson on October 23.
  • Joiner's eight kills are her most in a match since September 11 versus Purdue.
  • Six different players recorded multiple blocks, helping the team to 12 total. Gish added four and Kathleen Lowry chipped in three behind Mersman's career high.

Lipscomb returns to Allen Arena next weekend to wrap up regular season action. The Bisons will host North Alabama at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12 for Senior Night, before welcoming Jacksonville State at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
