Bisons finish off weekend sweep of Kennesaw State

NASHVILLE – Lipscomb men's basketball wrapped up its final home weekend on Saturday night with a 77-63 victory over Kennesaw State inside Allen Arena.

The win was the third in a row for the Bisons and moved them to 15-10 overall and 9-5 in the ASUN Conference, where they sit third in the standings. The Owls dropped to 4-18 and 1-13 with the defeat.

The Bisons put four players in double figures, led by graduate senior Romeao Ferguson's season high 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting. He added five rebounds, a pair of assists and knocked down three 3-pointers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ferguson got the game started with a corner three on a terrific cross-court find from Ahsan Asadullah, before the duo teamed up to later score six consecutive points in grabbing a 12-6 lead just four minutes into the action.

After starting 5-of-7 from the floor, Lipscomb suddenly found itself ice cold and went nearly 10 minutes without a field goal, missing its next 13 shots.

Despite the slow offense, the purple and gold managed to keep the Owls within reach. Parker Hazen snapped the drought with a layup at the 6:21 mark and the Bisons reeled off a 7-0 run to regain the lead at 21-20.

Ferguson and Will Pruitt nailed a pair of triples to keep pace with KSU, but the Owls managed to take a slight 31-29 lead into the half from the free throw line. It was the second night in a row the Bisons trailed in the locker room.

The second half was all Bisons, as the trio of KJ Johnson, Ferguson and Pruitt caught fire. They combined to shoot 16-of-20 overall and scored 43 points in helping Lipscomb outscore KSU 48-32 in the final 20 minutes.

Johnson poured in 17 of his 20 points after the break, while Ferguson added 14 and Pruitt 12.

The Bisons turned a deficit into a five-point advantage following a 9-2 run capped by a layup from Johnson.

Over a six-minute stretch midway through the period, Pruitt and Ferguson scored 15 straight points for the Bisons as the former nailed three triples in the spurt. They helped turn a five-point lead into a 65-51 advantage with 5:40 to play.

Johnson followed with a triple of his own, Ferguson hammered home an exclamation point and the Bisons drilled five free throws down the stretch to get the win.

Pruitt went 4-for-4 from long distance in the second half as Lipscomb finished 7-of-14 as a team in the stanza.
