Softball Drops Series Finale Against Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. - Sunday is a day of reckoning in most ASUN series.

Lipscomb's Lady Bisons fell behind early and could never get their offense on track in a 5-1 loss to Kennesaw State at Bailey Park.

"Teams that win on Sunday after a split are the ones that execute the best and find a way to win," Lipscomb coach Kristin Ryman said. ""Every single game in conference play is tough. We have been talking for the past several weeks that we can't shy away from stuff that is hard."

The Lady Bisons are 1-2 in the ASUN, 10-10 overall. Kennesaw State is 2-1 in the conference, 8-11 overall.

The Owls opened the first inning with a double, two singles, one driving in a run, and walk to set the stage for a three-run triple to right field by Raleigh Williams.

After then giving up a sacrifice fly to score a run and then allowing a double, Lipscomb starter Breana Burke was replaced by Maddie Siemer in the circle.

Siemer, pitching 5.2 innings, holding the Owls to two hits. She walked one and fanned six. Burke (6-4) was credited with the loss with only one-third of an inning pitched.

Melanie Bennett (7-6) went the distance for the Owls. She gave up three hits, walked one, hit one batter and struck out seven.

Lipscomb's run came in the second inning. Elise Shewmaker slammed a triple to right field to drive in Kyndall Crawford who had reached base on a fielder's choice.

"We have to find ways to make some things happen," Ryman said. "We have to meet challenges head on."

Extra Innings:
  • Kamrie Rich accounted for two of Lipscomb's hits. She has seven multi-hit games tying her for second with Presley Leebrick.
  • Shewmaker's triple was her second of the season.
