Bisons Beat Bellarmine To Stay Undefeated In Conference Play

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - An early goal from Molly Grant propelled the Lipscomb women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over conference newcomer Bellarmine on Sunday afternoon at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

The Bisons collectively put on a defensive display, holding the Knights to just two shots during the 90 minutes of hard fought soccer. CJ Graham made the lone save of the day for the Purple and Gold for Lipscomb's third shutout of the season.

It was a quick start for Lipscomb with Grant's goal coming in the eighth minute of the match off a corner kick. The Bisons, who only earned two corners on the day, made the most of their first set piece chance. Defender Shelby Craft was the one who sent the ball into the crowd of players in the 18-yard box and ultimately found the head of Kaitlin Echols. Echols redirected the ball towards the net, bouncing it on the turf, and Grant was in the right place at the right time, just getting a toe on it to push the ball under the Bellarmine goalkeeper putting the Bisons in front, 1-0.

In the second half, Grant almost added to the Lipscomb lead with her second goal. The sophomore unleashed a strike from distance that hit the crossbar in the 63rd minute. The rebound from Grant's attempt landed right at the foot of freshman Haley Williams, who sent a shot toward the net, but it was kicked away at the last second by the Knight goalkeeper keeping the score at 1-0.

The Bisons continued on the attack, totaling seven shots in the second half, but couldn't convert any other opportunities. However, the strong Bisons back line held off any advances from Bellarmine to come away with the win.

HERD NOTES:
  • Grant's goal was her third of the season. She ranks second on the team in goals.
  • The Bisons defense allowed only one shot on goal, which is the lowest mark of the season.
  • Bellarmine did not register a shot in the second half.
  • Four Bisons played the full 90 minutes: Shelby Craft, Kelli Beiler, Logan McFadden and Kaitlin Echols
