Women's Soccer Routs Liberty, 5-1

LYNCHBURG, Va. - It was a dominating performance for the Lipscomb women's soccer team on Friday afternoon as it defeated conference foe Liberty, 5-1, in a road match at Osborne Stadium. First half goals by Molly Grant, Kelli Beiler and Alivia Carapazza and second half scores from Shelby Craft and Kammy McGee lifted the Bisons to their first-ever victory over the Flames.

Lipscomb's five goals in a conference match are the most scored by the Bisons since Oct. 27, 2019 (6-0 vs. North Alabama).

It was another fast start for Lipscomb when Grant netted the first goal of the match in the fourth minute. Following a Lipscomb attack, the Liberty defense tried to make a clearance out of its defensive zone, but the sophomore forward intercepted the attempt. Controlling the ball, Grant dribbled into the penalty-box to point-blank range and tucked her shot inside the near post, to go up 1-0.

The Bisons would quickly strike again in the seventh minute. After Emily Patti drew a foul near the corner of the pitch, the Bisons earned their first set piece opportunity of the day. Craft stepped up to take the free kick and sent a cross in front of the net, finding the head of a jumping Beiler, who sent it home.

The final goal of the first half came 10 minutes later in the 17th minute by Carapazza. The freshman was able to control a bouncing ball after a ricochet on a clearance attempt by Liberty and ripped a left-footed shot from just outside the penalty-box into the bottom-right corner of the net for her first-career goal, making it a 3-0 match.

After the restart of the half, Liberty scored its only goal by way of a free kick in the 50th minute. Kasey Jamieson scored the goal, cutting the Lipscomb lead down to 3-1.

The Bisons responded, however, and found the back of the net for the fourth time of the afternoon thanks to Craft. Junior midfielder Cami Rogers sent in a cross from the far side of the field, hoping to find some purple jerseys. Craft swooped in to take the cross attempt and floated her shot attempt just over the outstretched hand of the Liberty goalkeeper.

Lipscomb scored its fifth and final goal on header from McGee in the 76th minute to all but seal the victory. McGee's first goal of the 2021 spring season came off an assist by Grant.
