Lipscomb Fights to Draw with Liberty, Remains Unbeaten In Its Last Four

NASHVILLE – Lipscomb Men's Soccer fought to a 0-0 draw against ASUN foe Liberty Sunday afternoon in its final regular season game at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

QUICK KICKS
  • The Bisons out-shot the flames 20-5 and landed three on frame
  • Michael Sibley made three saves to preserve his second clean sheet on the season
  • William Turner lead the offensive efforts with five shots
  • Scott Gulden landed a team-high two shots on frame
  • Lipscomb remains unbeaten in its last four matches

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Bisons nearly broke through in the 17' minute when a nice buildup ended with a Jake Zec cross that was headed just over the crossbar by Hayes Wood
  • Later in the first frame, Liberty nearly got the go-ahead goal when it earned a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. Lipscomb got a little help from the woodwork as the shot banged off the crossbar to keep things scoreless.
  • The first half was full of back-and-forth, wide open action, but neither squad was able to net anything in the first half as the side's headed into the break scoreless.
  • Another great chance came for Lipscomb in the 50' minute on a corner kick. Noah Gulden struck the ball and found William Turner, who was open in the box, but his shot sailed over the net to keep things knotted up.
  • The Bisons continued to pepper the goal with eight shots and held Liberty to just one shot in the second half, but the game-winner wasn't found. The match would head to its first sudden-victory overtime period.
  • Liberty was the aggressor in the first overtime with two shots and a good deal of possession in its attacking third, but the Lipscomb defense held strong and kept the Flames off the board.
  • With no score after the first overtime period, the match went to a final golden-goal overtime period.
  • Lipscomb continued to put the pressure on the Liberty offense, rocketing three shots and earning two corner kicks in the final overtime period, but the Liberty defense held strong for the 0-0 double-overtime draw.

HEAD COACH CHARLES MORROW

"I think for us to play the way we did and have as much of the game as we did, it's a little disappointing to come out on senior day and get a draw, but ultimately it doesn't change anything in terms of goals for the season and what we are looking forward to next week. "

"Liberty played really well today and did a good job of getting numbers behind the ball and ultimately we just weren't good enough in that attacking third or that final piece to find a goal."
"I'm really proud of how the guys played today and I think that guys did a really good job of limiting what Liberty was able to create and we will take the tie and move on and ultimately get a result next weekend."

UP NEXT
Lipscomb will be back on the pitch on Saturday, April 3 on the road at Bellarmine. Kickoff in Louisville, Kentucky is slated for 6 p.m. CT.
