Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Has Record Setting Night, Defeats North Alabama 7-0

NASHVILLE - The Lipscomb women's soccer team continued its winning ways and upped its win-streak to four straight games with a dominate 7-0 victory over North Alabama from the Lipscomb Soccer Complex on Wednesday night. Kelli Beiler, Cami Rogers and Kammy McGee produced five goals for the Bisons in the first half, while Grace Oliver and Haley Williams found the back of the net in the second half.

Lipscomb's seven goals are the most goals ever scored against an ASUN opponent. The mark is also tied for the third-most ever in its NCAA era.

The Bisons got the scoring started in the 13th minute of the match, with Kelli Beiler scoring her seventh goal of the season. The junior midfielder was in the right place at the right time after a shot by Molly Grant was saved. Beiler crashed into the box to collect the ball off the save and ripped the rebound opportunity into the lower left-hand corner.

Just two minutes after the restart, Rogers netted the second goal of the match for Lipscomb in the 15th minute. The ASUN Player of the Week made a break down the far side of the pitch out-running her UNA counterpart and got the ball deep into the box. The Prattville, Alabama native used a swift cut to weave her way through a couple of Lion defenders and with her left foot found the back of the net.

In the 20th minute, Beiler and Rogers teamed-up for the Bisons third goal of the first half. Rogers floated a pass over the North Alabama back line to find Beiler, who timed her run perfectly, one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Beiler side-stepped the goalie, leaving the net wide open and scored for the second time in a seven minute span.

Rogers wasn't done adding points to her night, however. In the 24th minute, the Bisons were on the attack again with Emanuela Schurch booting the ball towards the net from a few yards outside the 18-yard box. With the ball still in the air, Rogers made a run at it and used her head to flick it past the goalkeeper, making the score 4-0.

Lipscomb's fifth and final goal in the first 45 minutes of play was scored by McGee in the 32nd minute. Tori Wheeler drove deep into the attacking third and caused a swarm of Lions to collapse on her, leaving McGee open on the back side. With a nice drop-off pass, Wheeler led McGee to some open space and with a sliding effort McGee put the ball into the back of the net.

It didn't take too long for the Bisons to add to their total coming out of the halftime break as Oliver scored in the 50th minute. Freshman Skye Baun delivered a cross to the front of the net, which found Oliver's foot and ultimately the back of the net.

The seventh and final goal of the evening was scored by Williams in the 67th minute off a cross by Oliver. Williams, a freshman from St. Simons Island, Georgia, redirected the bouncing ball just inside the near post for her first-career collegiate goal.

THOUGHTS FROM HEAD COACH KEVIN O'BRIEN:

"It was a great team performance. There have been a lot of players that a really, really talented that haven't necessarily gotten their opportunity yet because they're behind some older, more mature, talented players so to give them that opportunity tonight, to get lots of minutes and showcase what they are capable of speaks to the talent of the whole squad. Obviously super excited about the current, but super excited about the future as well. We've got a lot of really, really fine soccer players.

"It was an awesome display of soccer. I thought we controlled the game from start to finish. We scored some fantastic goals and had few near chances, but with a couple of offsides and a couple that went close, we could have scored more.

"As a coach, it's just fantastic. I love seeing the group that didn't start the game encourage and support the group that did start the game. And then on the flip side, the players that came off, the way they supported those players in their opportunity was really, really special. It doesn't happen everywhere, but it does here and we're grateful for it."

HERD NOTES:
  • With her multi-goal performance, Beiler now has eight goals on the year which leads the team.
  • Rogers has scored multiple goals in back-to-back games.
  • Oliver's goal was her first of the season.
  • Lipscomb out-shot UNA 24-3.
  • The Bisons out-cornered the Lions 6-0.
  • Melissa Gray and CJ Graham each made one save in net.
