Bisons Win Third Straight, Down North Alabama 3-1

FLORENCE, Ala. - The Lipscomb women's soccer team earned its third-straight win and second-straight conference win with a victory over North Alabama on Thursday night from the Bill Jones Athletic Complex. Goals from Kelli Beiler, Evee Reeder and Cami Rogers secured the 3-1 victory for the Bisons.

Lipscomb and North Alabama were locked in a defensive battle for most of the first half with neither team being able to find an offensive rhythm and most of the action taking place in the center of the pitch. That changed in the 31st minute with a Lipscomb goal from Beiler.

The junior was almost able to break through UNA's defensive line when she took the ball into the 18-yard box, but received a good outcome by drawing a foul and earning a penalty kick. Beiler, who scored two goals last match via penalty, once again was on point with her penalty strike, tucking it away in the upper left corner of the net to give the Bisons the lead despite the North Alabama goalkeeper getting a finger on the attempt.

The lead was short lived, however, as UNA responded with a goal just three minutes later. Charlotte Kellett found a way to get a shot just through the hands of Lipscomb goalkeeper Melissa Gray to bring the match back to even.

With time winding down in the first half, the Bisons went on the attack to regain the lead. Lipscomb was able to push the ball into the attacking zone near the goal forcing the UNA defense to try and clear the ball out of the zone. Reeder made sure that didn't happen as she took control of the clear out attempt, juked the nearby defender and ripped a left-footed shot into the far corner of the goal, which put the Bisons back in front just before the break.

After the break, the Lipscomb attack came out aggressive and was able to capitalize early with a goal from Rogers in the 49th minute. After receiving a rainbow pass from Emily Patti, Rogers nudged the ball forward using her head to get past the Lion defender and opening up a window to put a shot on net. Rogers planted her left foot on the ball and got it over the diving UNA goalkeeper for the Bisons third and final goal of the night.

HERD NOTES:
  • Beiler now has five goals on the year. Three of them have been scored on penalty kicks.
  • Reeder's goal was her second of the season. The freshman is tied for the second most on the squad.
  • The goal from Rogers was her first in 2021.
  • Gray made three saves between the posts for the Purple and Gold.
  • Lipscomb registered 12 shots in the match, with eight coming on net.
