Women's Tennis wraps regular season with No. 2 seed in ASUN North

FLORENCE, Ala. – The Lipscomb women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season on Sunday with a 6-1 road win over North Alabama.

The win earned the Bisons the No. 2 seed in the ASUN North Division after going 9-8 overall and 4-2 in league play this season.

Lipscomb took a 1-0 lead after snatching its ninth doubles point of the season. It was the seventh time in the last eight matches the Bisons have won the doubles point after only taking two of the first nine outings to open the season.

The purple and gold got a pair of 6-4 wins on courts one and two with Kate Popova and Anja Trbeznik winning their sixth straight on the top line.

Liza Diachenko and Sasha Dobranos made it two in a row and improve to 5-2 at the No. 2 position together.

In singles action, Maddox Bandy got the scoring started on court six where she earned a 7-6 (3), 6-0 win for her eighth victory of the year.

Diachenko matched Bandy with a team-high 5th-straight win by sweeping UNA's Nicole Reilly 6-1, 6-4.

After the Lions got on the board on court four, the Bisons clinched the match and their seed in next week's conference championship.

At No. 2, Emma Zakordoniec fell behind in the first set and fought back to secure the clinch point.

Popova picked up win No. 9 on the year at No. 1 in a 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-5) battle. The freshman Dobranos also fought from behind to win 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 on court three for her team-leading 10th win of the campaign.
 
 
UP NEXT
Lipscomb will have another meeting with North Alabama who earned the No. 3 seed in the North. The teams will meet at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 17 at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center in the ASUN quarterfinals.
