Bisons Drop Both Contests Against Liberty Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Sometimes the only thing to do is keep on keeping on.

The Lady Bisons were held scoreless in both ends of an ASUN doubleheader Saturday afternoon losing 2-0 in the opener and 6-0 in the nightcap to Liberty at Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium.

"Liberty is very polished, and our team needs that challenge right now," Lipscomb coach Kristin Ryman said. "I don't won't it to come in the form of losses, but at the same time I love the challenge a team like Liberty brings."

Lipscomb falls to 14-15, 3-6 in the ASUN. Liberty, 27-13, 9-2 in the conference extended its winning streak to seven games.

In game two Maddie Siemer (2-3) started for Lipscomb in the circle. She gave up nine hits and six runs, all earned. She struck out one, walked seven and hit two batter. She left the game with one out remaining when she a sharply hit ball by Liberty's Caroline Hudson hit her and sent her out of the game. Emily Yakubowski faced on batter for the final out.

"The big thing for Maddie is controlling the freebies and that hurt her right off the bat," Ryman said. "Giving them the two runs early (first inning) hurt, but I thought she found a way to get out of a lot of innings."

Caitlin Turner led the Lady Bisons with two of their three hits. Kyndall Crawford slammed a double.

Karlie Keeney (10-4) threw a complete game. She struck out three and walked two.

Both pitchers went the distance in game one.

Lipscomb's Breana Burke (10-6) gave up four hits, walked five and struck out two. One of the two runs scored by Liberty was unearned.

"Talk about guts…Bre just competed," Ryman said. "I hated for her we couldn't find a way to get a couple of runs.

"Those are the moments that stink because you know how hard she is fighting to keep us in it against a really good hitting team. She did everything she needed to do. We were a couple of hits away from that that game."

Emily Kirby (8-4) allowed three hits, all singles. She struck out 10 and walked one.

Caitlin Turner connected for two hits again for the Lady Bisons. Amy Vetula added one.

"Our pitchers really fought hard today," Ryman said. "But I know there is more in our team. There is more in the tank. I am going to keep challenging them on their energy, fight and fire."

Extra innings:
  • Caitlin Turner has multiple hits in seven games.
  • Vetula stole a base in game two, her 14th of the season.
